The Orange Hall

Continuing down Newry Street and opposite the School Road visitors will see the Orange Hall, built in 1869. It was officially opened on 21 April, 1870. The Belfast Newsletter reported “There is a fine public room, capable of affording accommodation to about 250 persons; four large private rooms, and a committee room. Altogether the cost will be about £400, but a small amount of debt still remains on the building which, it is hoped, will soon be cleared off. About eight lodges of the district intend to hold their meetings in this hall, and it seems in every way adapted for purpose.”
