Rathfriland Historical Society is delighted to welcome you to the Rathfriland Heritage Trail. Originally compiled to mark the Millennium and supported by Banbridge District Council and the Lottery Heritage Fund, this trail guide has now been updated to mark the 50th anniversary in 2023 of the founding of the Historical Society, supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
We hope that visitors will enjoy the setting of ‘Rathfriland on the Hill’ with its stunning views of the Mourne Mountains as they discover something of the history of the town. The notes in this booklet can be linked to the Historical Society’s plaques on some points of the trail which also bear a QR code for further information. We have numbered the Trail on the map for convenience, but you may start at any point.
